Ice Realm Westminster Reopens with New Energy and Upgrades
The temperature has officially dropped in Westminster — and so has the puck! Ice Realm Westminster has reopened its doors, bringing new life to the city’s beloved ice rink on Springdale Street.
Originally built in 1996, the 36,000-square-foot facility has a long history of skating memories for local families. After operating for over a decade under the Anaheim Ducks organization, the rink closed in early 2024 following the pandemic downturn.
Now, Ice Realm — also home to Ice Realm Carlsbad — has proudly taken over the facility and completed a full renovation to welcome the community back.
“We’re thrilled to bring skating back to Westminster,” said Jake Dyck, Marketing Representative for Ice Realm. “Our team has done a ton of upgrades, and we’re excited for everyone to experience the new Ice Realm.”
A Completely Refreshed Experience
Over the past year, Ice Realm has transformed the space with new amenities and fresh ice. The rink now features:
A new restaurant and lounge with a full menu of food and beverages
A fitness gym and pro shop for players and guests
Upgraded facilities and ice systems for a better skating experience
Building Community Through Hockey & Skating
Ice Realm Westminster is now home to the California Surf Youth Hockey Program, competing in the Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA). The rink also serves local high school teams and offers programs for players of all levels.
“We know how much this rink means to Westminster and our neighboring beach communities,” said Rick Hutchinson, Executive Vice President of Ice Realm. “Our goal is to make this a place where families can skate, play hockey, celebrate birthdays, and make lifelong memories.”
Free Programs & Themed Skate Nights
The community can join in the fun with free try-hockey and learn-to-skate sessions offered on many Saturdays — including programs in partnership with USA Hockey (which provides free gear to participants) and figure skating instructors who help newcomers get started.
Public skating sessions are held regularly, along with seasonal themed nights such as Thanksgiving Skate and Ugly Sweater Night.
“Sport provides a powerful vehicle to bring people together, strengthen families, and transform communities,” said Ben Frank, CEO of Ice Realm. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to create a space where those experiences can happen right here in Westminster.”
