The Junior High School Hockey Development Division is more than just a league—it’s a developmental pathway designed to help players prepare for the next stage of their hockey journey.
Our program focuses on developing strong fundamentals, hockey IQ, creativity, team play, and confidence in a positive and structured environment. Players gain valuable game experience while learning systems, building situational awareness, and developing skills that mirror what they will encounter at the JV and Varsity high school levels. They also have the opportunity to build new relationships with players from across their district.
Whether your player is new to hockey, looking for additional development opportunities, or preparing for upcoming high school tryouts, this league provides the experience, guidance, and support needed to take the next step.

All games are conveniently scheduled on Saturday afternoons and early evenings, allowing players to continue participating with their club teams while gaining additional development and game experience.

League Format & Rules
- 12-Game Season
🏒 All games conveniently scheduled on Saturday afternoons and evenings, making it easy for families to plan around school, club hockey, and other activities.
- Fee: $795 Incudes League Jersey for new players! (Payment plans available.) League Registration
- Note: Not included - Teams may purchase additional practice ice, specialized coaching services, and any other team-related expenses.
- Ice Realm's hockey department will oversee league management, score sheets, and provide the game schedule
- All players must register through the Ice Realm platform, provide valid USA Hockey registration, and sign the required league waiver — including a current 2026–27 USA Hockey membership
- USA Hockey rules apply (tag-up offsides)
- No overtime during regular-season games
- NHL-style music during games
- Player MVP Awards for every game
Game Format
- Three 14-minute stop-time periods
- 1 hour, 15-minute ice slot
- 3-minute warm-up
- No timeouts
- NHL-style music
Player & Team Requirements
All players must be registered and approved by the league.
Coaches must verify and sign the scoresheet before each game.
The league may review player placements and adjust rosters within a district as needed to support competitive balance.
League jerseys are assigned by league. Returning players continue using their district jersey for as long as they play on that district team. New players can purchase a jersey package. Players who move to another district will need a jersey for their new district team.
Eligibility & Player Placement
- Open to Junior High–age players in grades 6–8
- Beginner 9th-grade players may be considered with league approval
- Open to Recreational and Travel players
- Current high school players are not eligible

District-Based Teams
All teams are district-bound, meaning players are assigned based on their home address and must play within their designated district program. The league will assign players to the appropriate district.
Example: Orange County players will compete within the OC district, while LA and Inland Empire players will join their respective district clubs. The league approves all coaching staff.

Rinks, Events & League Notes
- Games will be played primarily at Ice Realm rinks, with additional local partner arenas used as available
- All-Star Game: Date and format to be announced
- Championship Game: Top two teams advance to compete for the league title
- Jr. High Hockey is co-ed and open to players at the recreational and club levels
- Prior playing experience is recommended
